Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is a Catholic lay organization with over 10 million Active and Auxiliary (praying) members worldwide to-date. The primary purpose of the Legion of Mary is to lead people to Jesus Christ, so they can benefit from His love and mercy. Specifically, the Active Legionary seeks to lead the people we encounter in our works to a greater knowledge of and faith in God and to increase the holiness of our own members through prayer and service.

Under the guidance of a priest as Spiritual Director, active members of a Legion group, or Praesidium meet weekly. Often working in pairs, members perform at least 2 hours of apostolic works of mercy such as visiting the sick, the shut-in or homebound, nursing homes, instruct religious education classes, help the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Fatima navigate through homes in the parish, promote devotion to the Sacred Heart and reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and much more.

Realizing the necessity for a strong support of prayer, the Legion has Auxiliary members whose task is to daily pray 5 decades of the Rosary and the prayers of the Legion of Mary (the Tessera) for the intentions of the Blessed Mother and bolster the efforts of the active members. Each praesidium maintains its own roster of auxiliary members and appreciate that Auxiliaries are part of their daily spiritual battle in bringing souls to Jesus through Mary. There are currently 2 adult groups and 1 Junior group, (7-18). Come as a guest at their next meeting.  Contact: Mary Hannick (540)8477489 or  maryhannick@msn.com.

It is in the doing of the work that your love for Our Blessed Lord is manifested in Legionary action, for the Glory of God and the salvation of souls.
